What is the U-Pass? UPASS Expires May 4th, 2012!
The U-Pass (Universal Transit Pass) is a mandatory program running from September 1st until April 30th for full-time post-secondary students at the Thunder Bay Campus. It allows unlimited use of the city bus, any time, any day, anywhere that Thunder Bay Transit provides service. Download U-Pass Brochure
The U-Pass is a partnership between the Student Union of Confederation College Inc. (SUCCI) and the City of Thunder Bay.
What are the benefits?
The U-Pass provides a low-cost sustainable transportation option that:
- Is Green: Reduces the use of automobiles & the Transit fleet uses BioFuel.
- Increases access to affordable and sustainable transportation options.
- Will Save You Money!
- Provides a safe alternative to driving under the influence of alcohol.
Where do I get my U-Pass?
If you have paid the U-Pass fee as part of your college fees, your student card will be used as your U-Pass. The Transit logo will be embedded on your student card.
How does my U-Pass work?
Simply show the Transit Operator the front and back of your validated student card each time you board the bus.
How much does this service cost?
The U-Pass is mandatory and all full-time post-secondary students at the Thunder Bay Campus pay the U-Pass fee of $75 as part of your fees. For new students beginning in January the U-Pass fee is $38 per student. The U-Pass fee is assessed with other student fees and your tuition.
Can I use it in the summer?
No. Your U-Pass ends May 4th.
What if I lose my U-Pass?
If you lose your U-Pass, you have also lost your student card. You must replace your student card at the Library.
I am in a program that is not charged the U-Pass Fee, Can I pay to get the U-Pass and have the same privileges as other full-time post-secondary students?
If you are attending Confederation College full time in one of our non-post secondary programs (LBS, PCD, ACE , Apprenticeship), you can choose to pay the U-Pass fee. Part-time students registered in a post-secondary program with a minimum of (2) courses per semester at the Thunder Bay Campus may also pay the fee and receive a U-Pass.
Upon payment of the U-Pass Fee, a sticker will be affixed to your student card. Show your student card with the sticker to the Transit Operator and you can ride the bus.
Can I opt-out of the U-Pass and receive a refund? ~ OPT-OUT DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 30th ~
If you are a student who resides outside of the service area of Thunder Bay Transit while attending school, you may request to opt-out of the U-Pass and receive a refund.
You can Opt-out in the SUCCI Office prior to September 30th.
Students with Disabilities
Students with disabilities who use HAGI as their primary source of transportation may be eligible to receive a refund. Students with a CNIB pass are also eligible to receive a refund. To inquire if you qualify, please visit the SUCCI office to apply for a refund.
Other Refunds
Should you formally withdraw from school during the first 10 days of the academic year, a full refund will be processed for your U-Pass. You will be required to relinquish your student card in order to receive the refund.

Bus schedules and route maps are located at the front desk of the SUCCI Office or on information posts at campus bus stops.

Rack it and Ride
Thunder Bay Transit has put racks on all buses so cyclists can take their bikes with them. Bike racks hold up to two bikes. The racks are designed for easy loading and unloading and are available on a first come, first serve basis. There is no additional cost; your bike rides for free!
WHEN:
Bikes can be loaded at any time of the day or night. During peak periods, if the rack is full, you will have to wait for the next bus.
WHAT:
Conventional two-wheeled bicycles are allowed on the bike racks (wheels at least 41cm).
Federal Tax Credit
The U-Pass fee is eligible to claim for the Federal Transit Tax credit. U-Pass receipts are available online in your Student Banner account.
